On sale already?
Anthony : You're wearing flats, have your hair pulled back,and look really determined, Mary. That can only mean one thing!
Mary : Yep, I'm going shopping at the department store. They just put out a whole lot of new stuff, so I want to get there early before the place is turned upside down.
Anthony : Wow, that sounds like a horrible way to spend a day, but I'm sure you'll be like a kid in a candy store.
Mary : What can I say, it's one of my few guilty pleasures. You should come with me and get a few sweaters. You might walk away a few good deals.
Anthony : Sweaters? Just saying that word in the middle of August makes me perspire. I need some t-shirts, if anything, but not sweaters.
Mary : The clothes on the racks today were designed more than a year ago and were ordered by the store at least six months ago. They've just been waiting for the manufacturer to make them.
Anthony : Why can't they just wait another month when people start to feel like they need fall clothes? It's been in the 30s every day for the last two weeks.
Mary : You don't understand, Anthony, retail is like a tightly choreographed ballet between the designers, manufacturers, warehouses, retailers and consumers.
Anthony : Well, it sounds to me like the choreographer should be fired!
Mary : Maybe, but at least your t-shirts will be on the sale rack today, just waiting for you to buy them for a song.
Anthony : So you're telling me the one thing I want to buy is going to be on sale at a really low price? Maybe the logic of retail isn't as bad as I thought.
