"menu"

우리가 말하는 메뉴는 메뉴가 아닐지도 모릅니다. 무슨 말이냐면, 영어로 menu라고 하는 것은 소위 '메뉴판'을 가리키는 것으로, '이 집에 메뉴가 몇 가지야?' 라든가, '이 식당에는 여러 가지 메뉴가 있네'라고 할 때는 menu를 쓰면 안 된다는 겁니다. menu는 직원이 메뉴판을 건네면서, 혹은 손님이 메뉴판을 달라고 할 때 쓰시면 됩니다. 메뉴판을 건네면서 하는 말은 Here's the menu. 이고, '메뉴판 주세요.'는 Can I have the menu, please?가 되겠습니다.
