Leo : It’s hard to believe you used to live in La Jolla, Maddy! Look at these houses!

Maddy : They call the houses nearest the beach “ bungalows.” I don’t really know why, considering they cost around $2 million a piece. It would be like calling the Taj Mahal a shack.

Leo : That being said, how did you manage to afford to live here?

Maddy : I was going to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and my great uncle – my grandfather’s brother – lived here with his wife.

Leo : That must have been something, rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous.

Maddy : It’s not like that. This isn't at all like Beverly Hills. People live here because they like the seaside, not because they want to be in the limelight.

Leo : It almost feels like a small town, though I bet it gets really crowded whenever there’s a golf tournament at Torrey Pines. I once saw Tiger Woods shoot a hole-in-one there! Well, I saw it on TV.

Maddy : I’m not really into golf. But when I lived here, we used to go swimming at a beach near the course. And we also went cliff jumping every weekend at the cove. But it’s illegal now.

Leo : You jumped off a cliff into the sea? I thought you were afraid of heights?

Maddy : Not at all! In fact, I used to be a big-time adrenaline junkie!

Leo : Call me crazy, but I prefer sitting on the beach with a good book over jumping off a cliff into an oncoming wave!
