Black Day in Korea  한국의 블랙데이

[Power Dialog]

Are you joining me and Bob for brunch on Sunday?

No, I'm meeting some other singles for jajangmyeon. It's Black Day, you know.

Black Day?

You know how on Valentine's Day, women get gifts for men and on White Day, men get gifts for women? Black Day is for people who didn't get anything on either day. We meet and eat food that is black.

What do you do at lunch, complain about not having that special someone?

Haha! We also hope to meet other singles and make a love connection.

Well, It's good to have a support system on a day like this.

[Power Note]

1. that special someone - a person's romantic partner

특별한 누군가, 연인

A: So, are you still looking for that special someone?

B: No, I think I'm going to focus on loving myself for a while.

* My mother used to set me up dates to help me find that special someone.

2. a love connection - meeting someone with emotional connection and romantic interest.

연애 감정을 일으키는 람, 연인 관계

A: What do you think of Bill? I'm going out with him tonight.

B: If you're looking for a love connection, he's not your guy.

* Tony and Rita made a love connection on their first date and got married a year later.

3. support system - one's close friends and family who provide encouragement and help

지지(지원) 체계, (주로 어려울 때) 격려와 도움을 주는 친한 친구나 가족

A: It's hard living so far from home. I miss my family and friends.

B: Yeah, it's important to have a support system around when times get tough.

* His support system consisted of his mother, brother, and best friend, Tim.
