Freegans  프리건

[Power Dialog]

Katie, are you up for a little adventure tonight? My friends and I are doing a little "freegan" grocery shopping.

I don't think I like the sound of that. Nothing's open. Are you planning to break in?

No! We're not going in the stores, we're going behind the stores to take the food they throw away. That's the free part of the word "freegan."

You mean dumpster diving? Why would you want to eat rotten food?

That's the point! It's not all rotten. Grocery stores throw away $31 billion worth of perfectly good food in Canada each year.

It's terrible that so much food goes to waste, but I wouldn't be caught dead climbing into a dumpster.

That's okay. You drive the car and we'll do the shopping.

[Power Note]

1. be up for something - to be ready and willing to do something

~할 의향이 있다, 기꺼이 ~하려고 하다

A: Hey, are you up for a little basketball tomorrow?

B: I can't, I twisted my ankle at the gym yesterday.

Rita was always up for dancing on Friday nights.

2. like the sound of something - to think something is appealing.

구미가 당기다, 마음이 끌리다, 혹하다

A: Wanna go to the baseball game tonight? I got us seats in my company's luxury box.

B: I like the sound of that! See you at the front gate.

Free ice cream? like the sound of that!

3. wouldn't be caught dead - to be strongly unwilling to do something

절대로 ~하지 않겠다, 죽었다가 깨어나도 ~할 일은 없다

A: Want to go to the science fiction convention with me on Sunday?

B: I wouldn't be caught dead at a giant nerdfest!

Sally said she wouldn't be caught dead wearing black pants with brown shoes.
