Mexican Border
Gilies : I’m guessing we’re near the border, based on all the cars lined up.
Lauren : Yeah, that traffic is why we’re walking all the way from the parking lot in San Ysidro. Border security and inspections are tight. Plus, cars get stolen all the time in Tijuana.
Gilies : So why are we going there if there’s so much crime?
Lauren : Because Tijuana is fun! It’s a little dirty, but it’s really exciting. It’s like night and day compared to downtown San Diego. And when the sun goes down, all hell breaks loose! Haha!
Gilies : Is that Tijuana on the other side of the fence? There’s a lot of people selling stuff.
Lauren : No, that’s just the other side of the border. People are just trying to eke out a living selling sruff to gringos anywhere they can.
Gilies : Seems like they’re living hard to mouth in this part of Mexico. Look at all those little kids selling gum! How sad.
Lauren : Remember, we’re here to spend money and have a good time. Everyone benefits! Come on, get in that brown car over there so we can get to T.J.
Gilies : That’s a taxi? I don’t see a sign. Shouldn't we look before we leap in a place like this?
Lauren : Every car here is a taxi. Even if there’s an entire family in it, they’ll drive you into town for a dollar or two. You’ll see, people here are really nice and helpful.
Gilies : My life is in your hands, Lauren. I hope you know what you’re doing!
