Michelle Obama "Let's Move" Speech - Part 2

In these kinds of strong African American communities, we went to neighborhood schools around the corner. So many of us had to  walk to and from school every day., rain or shine. I know you've told that story. ( Laughter.)  And in Chicago, where I was raised, we did it in the dead of winter. ( Laughter.) No shoes on our feet - it was hard but we walked! ( Applause.)

And in school, we had recess twice a day and gym class twice a week, like it or not. ( Applause.) And then when we got home in the afternoon, after school or in the summer. there was no way we'd be allowed to lie around the house watching TV. ( Applause.) First of all, there wasn't that many channels. ( Laughter.)

Our parents made us get up play outside. Had to get up, get out, didn't have to - just couldn't be inside. And we would spend hours riding bikes. playing softball, freeze tag, jumping double dutch, kids nowadays don't even know how to jump double dutch! (Laughter and applause.)

We were constantly on the move, only stopping to eat or what? When the streetlights came on, right? ( Applause.)
