Good dad, bad mom? Not quite

Abbey : Ned, why is Billy eating a popsicle and sitting on his swing?

Ned : Oh, that? He was whining that you sent him to his room and he wouldn't stop.

Abbey : So you rewarded him? You're setting a bad precedent for our son! Now he's going to think that he can always go running to you when I discipline him for anything.

Ned : Honey, he was throwing a fit and it was so annoying. I work from home and can't have these distractions all day.

Abbey : Billy is your son, too. It's your job to back me up and teach him right from wrong. He has to learn that there are rules.

Ned : What harm did it really do? He's being quiet on his swing, I'm being quiet and getting my work done. It seems like you're the only one who's getting worked up about it.

Abbey : Of course I'm upset. You're undermining my authority. You're showing him that there are no consequences for bad behavior.

Ned : Maybe I'm teaching him to he resourceful? You know, to go after what he wants and to not let anyone stop him!

Abbey : Ned, he's three years old! He doesn't need classes on goal setting and motivation yet.

Ned : Well, what do you want me to do about it now? The damage is done.

Abbey : Go outside right now and fix it. Explain to him that you were wrong and that mommy was right and send him back to his room.
