My Computer Crashed! Help!

Tony : Mary, you sounded so frantic on the phone. What's the problem?

Mary : My computer crashed and it refuses to start up again. I'm a little freaked out that I'll lose all my files.

Tony : Okay, Just calm down and I'll see what I can do about it. Did you try a safe restart?

Mary : No, what's that? All I did was hit the power button a few times after it went black.

Tony : And nothing happened? Not even a beep or a flash of light on the screen?

Mary : Nothing at all! This is horrible. I have a deadline with my publisher next week and I haven't backed up my files in about five days.

Tony : Well, let's worry about that after we get your computer going again. I'm going to try a safe start, holding "option" and "s" at the same time. Hmm.. this is very peculiar.

Mary : I don't like the way you said that. Is it the end of the road for my computer?

Tony : No, not at all. In fact, I think everything is going to be just fine. Just ask you dog over there.

Mary : My dog? What do you mean?

Tony : He fell asleep on the power cord and pulled it out of the wall socket. Just plug it back in and you'll be back in business.
