Choosing between a dog and a cat
Mary : I'm so excited you agreed to get a pet. I can't wait to get our new kitten home!
Anthony : Wait a minute. I didn't agree to get a cat. I said "a pet," which I assumed you knew meant a dog.
Mary : Anthony! You know I'm a cat person. I like dogs, but I don't want all that added responsibility of walking it twice a day and giving it a bath every week.
Anthony : Yeah, but that's part of having a pet. Don't you have to give a cat a bath every week?
Mary : Haha! No way! They clean themselves. You only give a cat a bath if you want to be ripped to shreds. They don't like water.
Anthony : See, that's another reason to get a dog. You can take a dog to the beach and it'll swim with you and play with a ball and fetch sticks and...
Mary : ...Start fights with other dogs, and chew everything up, and roll around in the dirt. I'm not backing down, Anthony.
Anthony : I guess we're at an impasse, then. Let's just all it off. I really can't imagine enjoying having a cat. They're so aloof and temperamental, and frankly, I'm a little scared of them.
Mary : Scared of cats? That is the craziest thing I've ever heard. Look, we can compromise on this, you know.
Anthony : How so? Get a pet chicken instead?
Mary : No, I'll pick out a kitten to take care of and you choose a puppy that get to train and walk and bathe and feed and clean up after, okay?
