Helping an elderly neighbor
Bill : You won't believe what happened to me yesterday. I was sitting in my living room minding my own business when I heard someone screaming for help!
Josephine : Oh my god! That's terrible! What did you do?
Bill : I went to outside and asked the person where she was and what was wrong with her. It turned out it was my elderly neighbor, Mrs. Plotkin.
Josephine : The widow who lives in the second floor of the apartment building near your house?
Bill : Exactly, Well she told me that she fell down and couldn't move and her phone was too far away to call for an ambulance.
Josephine : That poor dear! The last time I saw her, she looked as fit as a fiddle. Did you go into her house and hep her get back up?
Bill : I tried, but her door was locked. So I called the paramedics and told them to bring a ladder. Then I stood outside her window and talked to her until help arrived.
Josephine : She must have thought her number was up. Imagine if you weren't around. She would have to lay there in pain all day!
Bill : And if it were winter, nobody would have heard her through closed windows. I guess it was both her unlucky day and her lucky day.
Josephine : Well, I think you deserve a hero's dinner - on me!
Bill : I didn't really do anything out of the ordinary. But that's not to say I won't accept your offer for a free meal! Thanks!
