Getting a Second Job  부업 갖기

[Power Dialog]

Hey, Hassan, want to catch a movie tonight?

Oh, I wish I could, but I start my part-time job tonight. I can barely make ends meet.

Well, if you weren't living beyond your means, you would be fine.

What do you mean?

I mean, you spend your money on so many unnecessary things, like news clothes every pay day, restaurants every night, and taxis everywhere you go.

I suppose I could cut back on a few of those things. Maybe even get a smaller apartment.

Yeah! Then you could afford to take me to the movies every weekend!

[Power Note]

A: How is it that we make the same amount of money and you are always broke?

B: I guess with my student loans and medical bills, it's hard to make ends meet.

* It's hard to make ends meet with only one person in the family working.

2. living beyond one's means - to spend more money than one earns

A: If you don't stop living beyond your means, your're going to get into serious trouble.

B: I've got everything under control. Will you pass the caviar, please?

* Tim lived beyond his means, using his credit cards for everything.

3. cut back on something - to do, eat, or use less of something

A: Starting this month, I'm cutting back on my spending at cafes and fast food restaurants.

B: You'll not only save money, but your health will probably improve, too.
